A Moment to Remember - korean/eng subs

Loaded melodrama is glossy, yet well-told and engaging. However, after about ninety minutes the inconsistencies, implausibilities, and saccharine conceits start piling up. This film does prove to be memorable, but your reasons—and your mileage—could vary.

Black House - korean - english sub

Like almost every other horror film I can recall, Black House, directed by Sin Tae-ra [Shin Terra, 신태라] and featuring a cast headed by the excellent Hwang Jeong-min [황정민] (Bloody Tie, 2006, A Bittersweet Life, 2005, You Are My Sunshine, 2005), involves a series of unexplained deaths. Unlike other Korean horror movies, the film is the first in my recollection to feature psychedelic poster art (it's only a teaser!). Adapted from a novel by Japanese writer Kishi Yusuke and co-produced by CJ Entertainment and Kadokawa Pictures, this early entry in this summer's horror film line-up finished shooting earlier this month and is slated for theatrical release in June. Other cast members include Kang Shin-il [강신일] (Maundy Thursday, 2006, Public Enemy, 2002), Yoo Seon [유선] (The Wig, 2005, The Big Swindle, 2004, The Uninvited, 2003) and Kim Seo-hyeong [김서형] (The City of Violence, 2006). Sin Tae-ra previously directed Brainwave [브레인웨이브], a low-budget sci-fi adventure, which received a limited release last summer.

The Evil Twin - korean - english subs

Ten years ago, twin sisters So Yeon and Hyo Jin (Sin-hye Park) both fell into a river, claiming the life of Hyo Jin and leaving So Yeon comatose. Ten years later, So Yeon finally wakes up. Though she has lost her memory, she is troubled by what she can't remember, and often shows characteristics similar to her dead sister. As she recovers, the past slowly returns - the circumstances of the accident, the sisters' jealous rivalry over So Yeon's husband-to-be Hyun Sik (Jae Hee) - and a series of mysterious murders befalls the village.

Secret Sunshine - korean -english sub

SECRET SUNSHINE is an ambitious film that feels like several movies in one. Do-yeon delivers one of the finest performances of recent memory, covering the gamut of human emotions with seeming effortlessness. Kang-ho, who is one of South Korea’s most recognizable stars (THE HOST, SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE), gleefully embraces his role as an Everyman, providing depth in what could have otherwise been a forgettable role. Ultimately, it is Chang-dong’s assured writing and directing that makes SECRET SUNSHINE such a revelation. Though his film is hard to categorize, it is just that expansiveness that makes it such a tour-de-force.

Green Chair - Korean Movie with english subs - R18

109 minutes, 35mm, in Korean with English subtitles
Directed by: Park Chul-Soo
Starring: Seo Jeong, Shim Ji-Ho, Oh Yun-Hong

Another Korean movie based on a true story, GREEN CHAIR is the first film in
four years from controversial director Park Chul-Soo, best known for 301/302,
which was, for many years, the only Korean movie you could rent at Kim's Video.
Seo Jeong (THE ISLE) plays Kim, a nice 32-year-old woman who's making whoopee
with a 19 year old boy, Hyeon (first time actor, Shim Ji-ho). Unfortunately for
them, 20 is the age of consent in Korea, and she's arrested, sentenced, and
locked up.

But the second she's finished with her sentence, she makes a beeline back to
Hyeon (who wouldn't?) and the two shack up for a marathon sex session. Those
looking for pervy kicks will be disappointed: while there's plenty of sex on
display, the movie is wrapped up in the essential comedy and potential problems
inherent in every sex-based relationship, compounded when one partner has to do
a little time for it.

Funny and beautiful, with some gorgeous poetic digressions, GREEN CHAIR is yet
another pro-sex movie in this year's New York Asian Film Festival. Hopefully,
it'll give you lots of ideas.
